Must we all be sexy and wicked sick?

I am so tired of the word sexy I want to scream!! Sexy's rightful home is in the brain and so far they don't make lacy push-up brain bras, although Dear Helen Hartman has made a lovely "bullet-bra bonnet" from a bisected football. Must I wear lingerie in public (although I sometimes do that), swan about with my eyes half-closed (I do that too), and talk with a husky voice, which I only do when I'm coming down with something nasty ("Oh, Doctor, she has a bad case of wicked sick Sexy") or when I'm trying my hardest to be uber-cool and end up sounding uber-stupid, to qualify as sexy by mainstream standards?

So I surrender to sexiness. My Visible Monday outfit today at Patti's Not Dead Yet Style, as below, is not only uber-sexy, but it's also a wickedly-ill seasick ensemble of red, purple, pink, and orange.

Whose heart would not beat faster at the sight of this bright floral-patterned maxi dress with clashing pantyhose-fabric neon-pink top and hat? Of course my amour-red beret is keeping a lid on all that exploding brain sexiness - I wouldn't want it just spewing out at innocent bystanders on the sidewalk. And the wickedest sick part of today's outfit is the Heart bag, which I have had for a while but don't often use because the shape is very inconvenient and I have to carry a shopping bag to hold most of my sexy accoutrements, like pencil crayons and my reading glasses. I was going to wear something conservative, but then my overwhelmingly ill outfit compelled me to enter this forbidden Garden-of-Eden post-apple sinscape of sexiness.

Details of the outfit
  • thrifted maxi dress with ruffles removed, Wildlife Thrift Store
  • thrifted red beret, Community Thrift Shop
  • thrifted red shoes, Hush Puppies, Value Village
  • thrifted heart bag, Community Thrift Shop
  • thrifted vintage neon-orange/pink sunglasses, Gastown shop

So a big Heart from Ms. Bag to everyone. Happy Visible Monday. Patti, you rock as hostess of your wonderful weekly party. This week I'm spiking the punch (more than usual). Of course I had a head schtart...hiccup.

My next post will (re)introduce you to 11 fabulous bloggers as part of my Liebster Award from Lovely Lyosha at Inside and Outside.

  1. I aspire to sick and sexy! And I dare say that what is truly sexy cannot be pictured...

  2. Complete awesomeness, Ms. Melanie! I love the heart bag.

  3. No one could resist you in this ensemble. While it's all delicious, I think for me the final, wicked touch is the sunglasses. Isn't mystery supposed to be a come-hither essential?

  4. Oh honey, embrace the double-bagging, it's divine! Sexy wee bag for sexy wallet, sexy bling phone and sexy sunnies, then big granny bag for non-sexy items like notebooks and eco-shopping bag etc. I've been doing it for a year and gets me into no end of sexy trouble!! One look at you today and I just want to strip down to my scanties, grab your beret and make you chase me down the street for it!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxooxoxoxo

    1. Doh, why didn't I double bag like you do so sexily and fabulously?!!! My sexy brain must have overloaded on sexiness not to have realized the possibilities.

  5. Screaming is sexy too. So I don't think there's anyway for you to escape the adjective. You are very brain sexy, and clothed in these vibrant threads you are in complete sexy overload. But, not that there's anything wrong with that though.

  6. Leaving something to the imagination is always sexy. Your dark glasses and maxi create some mystery and who wouldn't want a peek inside a heart shaped purse?

  7. I'd be all over you like a rash if I saw you out in that frock (well, probably in anything you own). That dress is so sweet and taken to a new level with the cool shapes, beret and heart-shaped bag! Must be something in the air, I've been out in my nightie today (but the sexy bit is probably questionable). xxx

    1. Vix, you could wear flypaper and be sexy!

  8. Oh Melanie, we are all just squishing each other with our grossly sick sexiness! Surely your passionate surrender and inconvenient heart smash the mainstream diagnostic criteria for sexiness to smithereens.

What I want to know is why the red, peeling, runny nose doesn't rank as high on the sex-o-meter as the sick-voice? It's all I got.

    1. Sounds like you have severe case of wicked SICK sexy. Let's work on shuffling that emPHAsis. If you nose is intelligent, which I suspect it is, it's still sexy.

  9. Whoever gave up that bag was crazy! It's a fabulously fun find along with those 60s-esque square frames. FABOO!

You're sexy and you know it! ;-)

  10. Beyond sexy! Thank goodness for the sunglasses, or readers might melt down from the sheer sick sexiness of it. Brilliant! xoxoxoxoxo

  11. On yeah: "I'm too sexy for my hat. Too sexy for my hat. What do you think about that?" Got that beat? That's you Melanie, all brainiacal-sexy over, under, sideways, down...

  12. Oh, I'm so with you on the "sexy imperative." It has younger women in my office dressing like streetwalkers. That bag is downright voluptuous.

  13. jajaja I always enjoy your pictoric post... and yes the world have a sexy sicknes... your outfit such a cutie, I want that bag and the glasses.... looove iiit

  14. Yes, my heart is beating faster at the sight of you and your maxi, heart bag, and sunglasses. 'Sinscape' is definitely a new word to throw around at the drop of a 'beret.'

  15. You are fabulous. I am seeing that more and more women would rather look cute or 'asking for it' sexy than elegant or beautiful. My two cents.

  16. Dead Sexy, that's you!!! I have been told by teenage boys that my hair is "sick", so there you go. The second photo of you holding the scrumptious heart bag, in your red sunnies and beret makes me happy just looking at it!!

    1. You have achieved quite an honour to have your hair called sick. That would mean that it's ill and phat as well...?

  17. This was just such a fun post. It made me smile almost as much as I did at seeing your outfit. That heart purse does make my heart go pitty pat, but I can see how hard it would be to carry.

  18. Ooooh! The red heart bag!! We should ALL have one, doncha think? I want it at any rate, so put me down FIRST on the list of those deserving people who are going to get one.

  19. I love your heart bag and I want one - almost as much as I love "forbidden Garden-of-Eden post-apple sinscape of sexiness"

  20. Your outfits make me happy!

  21. Wit and humor are the sexiest things going, and you and your outfit have those by the boatloads. I often see maxi dresses that I think are too 'girly' for me, but -- duh -- take off the ruffle and they become elegant. Thanks for the inspiration!

  22. Love your style, dear! Reminds me a bit of mother's - who, as coincidence would have it, i just did a post on! Check it out!

  24. I expect sinful chocolates to be in that bag! This outfit is delicious, favorite colours and super fun accessories!

  25. Well, we all know sexy is a subjective concept, and the brain is the biggest and best sex organ!
I adore this frock, love its colours and print and shape, and you in it! If you had been wearing that with me at Bolsover Castle, I fear "my" highwayman would have whisked you off in a flash and left me broken-hearted... But then I might have pinched your bag while you were distracted, so instantly my heart would be better! xxxxxx

  26. You can resist the adjectives all you want, but sister, that is one sexy, wicked, sick outfit! (and, um, hilarious!)
