Yellow Skirt Freak Show Update!! and great walls

When you can't decide what colour or pattern to wear, of course you wear them all.

And below, just so you don't think I've gone all soft and happy and positive - the look I throw on 1) if I sense some style-rule 'tude coming my way, my withering regal glare or 2) to convince gawkers in the surrounding highrises that I know exactly what I'm doing in the alley. Bwhahaha!

Who needs Mr. Bean when you've got me bungling around with my bag and the tripod and my alcohol spray, flappy pants, and my remote, and that stupid thing there, and, geez, what is that?, my purse, thinking all the while, DON'T LET IT TOUCH THE GROUND!! Oof, arf, ack - it's my distinctive cry.

Oh yes, everything under control here. Yes-sireedy-deedy (no meaning there, Greetje).

Wearing: hip-slung oversized palazzo pants from Used House of Vintage, top from Value Village long ago, corset belt from I-forget-where, shoes from the reject sale pile at Topshop a couple of years ago, earrings from My Sister's Closet. I tucked in the top and decided I also needed the belt.

I have lots of photos but, puh, enough of that. NEXT!!! she screamed (like that screamy Frau Farbissina in Austin Powers. You can see her true magic here). But first -

I knew Sally was a madly-skilled sewist and stylist with a wonderful sense of humour, but this FYS project blew me away. Hahaha! You must see her post here, well, all her posts - so worth it. Soon she'll also put up a "Making of the Yellow Skirt" post as well. You'll see why.

Thanks, Sally!! And thanks also to your artistic director, photographer, the villa custodians, and of course your gifted son, Umbi. Your joyful styling made my day! The skirt is now winging its way to the USA.

Refreshed from that interlude, are you? You must be ready for NEXT OUTFIT!!

Yes, a little off center, cut off, with a crooked horizon. Just like my life. My superb thrifted vintage jumpsuit from Used House of Vintage, which features a persnickety rear metal zip, worn with my vintage leather belt and thrifted Miu Miu boots. Earrings from My Sister's Closet. Hair from my head.

Another quickie blankie photo with a scrap piece of black fleece as a backdrop and disinfected soles.

And one more photo for the road because I have it and I like it and I risked my humility once again to take it in a new location. It seems everywhere I turn these days I run into another great wall. Oof.

That's all from here. I have been a failure at visiting everyone. I'll try to catch up.

I'll link this up to:
Patti at Visible Monday, Not Dead Yet Style
Catherine at #iwillwearwhatilike, Not Dressed as Lamb
Anne at 52 Pick-me-up: Ivory/Rejection, heh, SpyGirl.

Have a great week.
I love that yellow skirt.

  1. You do have the best walls up there north of the border. And your outfits slay me, in the Very Best Way. I cannot wait for the opp'ty to go shopping with you again. xox

    1. Yes, we do have some mighty fine walls in my city. Heh. I would love to go shopping with you again! I had so much fun last summer.

  3. I love both outfits! But the black and white. Oh the black and white. I am going to have dreams of sneaking in like a ninja in the night and stealing this outfit away from you for my own wearing pleasure. But alas, I do not think it would fit me as well. So, instead I will admire you from across the web while I wipe the drool from my chin. Freaking fabulous. Just freaking fabulous!

I found this beauty on the $10 reject rack. ???!!! You never know, right?

  4. Oh my! Yes your jumpsuit is sweet! Of course! And your hair is standing-up-stellar...but man oh man...let's talk about the AMAZING job on the travelling yellow skirt! Wow! Seriously BLOW AWAY by the incredible effort, amazing photos and addition to the skirt. Sally and her son are fantastic! LOVED it!

    1. About the skirt...gulp. Yeah. I kept scrolling and scrolling and my jaw kept falling more and more. Stellar, stellar styling. I'm surprised Sally wasn't lifted off the ground, right? So the skirt is on the move again.

  6. I want a corset belt! (well, "need" would be more...erm...fitting!), and I could happily provide a home for your reject footwear too. Are your feet bare Melanie? How can it be that Vancouver is warmer than Italy?
The Jumpsuit is wonderful, but with a dodgy rear zip I'd be fretting about getting cut-off, off-centre too, so I'd wear it back to front. Your crooked horizon would then be nothing to my rear wedgie and baggie crotch styling!
Thank you for your kind comments on my dealings with The Yellow Skirt; and I love your choice of featured photographs. The pleasure was all mine and I'm already feeling bereft without her.

    1. Finally, no socks with sandals. Yay! I have a hard time believing Vancouver is warmer than Italy! "Rear wedgie and baggie crotch" - hahaha!

I had a hard time choosing which photos to use - they were all spectacular, Sally! I'm so happy you could join the show and I look forward to the-making-of post.

  7. Enid: You and SpyGirl, wearing ALL THE COLORS. Whatever happened to basic fashion black?
Me: Enid, go tidy some scarves or something. I know. We no longer want them alphabetical. We want them sorted by hue. GO!
    Enid: Noooooooooooo.
Me: No, you are not fired. Go sort the scarves! NOW!

Hahahaha. So fun to order around my fake persona.

Your Ivory 52 Pick-me-up contribution is mind bending.
Your pattern on pattern is awesome!

      I love your beige/neutral theme, Anne. It's a challenge.

  9. When you walk past the vintage stores of Vancouver do amazingly beautiful things just fly out the door and land on your bod? Because it seems like that. I love a mixed print, especially on you. And Frau Farbissina is my alter ego! I actually saw the actress that plays her standing in line at a movie theater and I could hardly keep my cool. I think that The Yellow Skirt is one of the Best Inventions Ever. EVER!!!!

    1. I'm a professional miner, Connie. I go in with my headlight on a hard hat and my pick axe and dig. And dig. If I'm lucky I hit the jackpot on the $5 or $10 rack.

Frau Farbissina - We could have a club and we all have to shout all the time and be careful when we sip our booze because we're always being startled. Pancake would freak out. I can't believe you met the actress. Hahaha! I often speak like FF in my head. Often. Heh.

  10. If I could begin to wear every color and pattern even half a well as you I would imitate this look to the T. Just by simply adding that fantastic belt all those bright exotic colors worked fabulously well together. And the last outfit, perfection! I've gone without wearing earings for at least 15 years and haven't missed them at all until I see yours (please stop tempting me, hehe). The Yellow skirt just keeps getting better and better with its travels, I'm looking forward to this.

    1. I didn't start wearing earrings again until last year after decades going without. Suddenly, out of nowhere, I had to wear them. Maybe it was because I started doing tower hair and my head needed anchors.
I can't wait to see what you do with FYS. Hahaha!! Such an adventure!

  11. I love all these patterns and colours - and oh, the walls, why not the walls, yes indeed. I agree with Thorne - a jumpsuit with a zipper at the back is some kind of new torture.

I love seeing the Traveling Yellow Skirt again! What adventures she has been on!

    1. What's so cool about FYS is how everyone comes up with an amazing unique way of styling it. Every time I go to the Gallery I am reminded. Everyone is a SCTAR! (I just went back to see your steampunk castle styling. OMG! Like I said, schtars!)

Zippers on the back. It defies nature.

  12. I reallylike both putfits but it will come as no surprise when I say the black and white one is closer to my personal preference (which has nothing to do with you). Thise big earrings really look good with every outfit.
I had some good laughs or grins when I read your text. Too many to tell. Great walls too.
I went over to Sally's blog.... Freaking amazing what she did with the skirt. Love it.
Saw the word pernickity again. Thank you. And I would have known what you meant with "yes-sireedy-deedy" haha.

Whilst the monochrome look is a delight - my heart nearly burst at the sight of your first ensemble.
Also, who needs Blue Steel when you can have BRACKNELL to purge the algae/moss/green stuff from your photo-shoot venue.

TTYS (careful now) looks absolutely divine as styled by Sally. LOVE.

I'm not sure how much it is needed or how effective it is, but it makes me feel better just the same before I go into the cafe. There's a whole lot of living that goes on in the alleys.

  20. 'When you can't decide what colour or pattern to wear, of course you wear them all.' Ahhhhh, wise words, very wise. T'is a very fair and equitable way to deal with the situation. Then no colour feels left out and goes off and has a tantrum in the corner.
All the colours of the rainbow in those pants and MORE! I drink it all in and I'm revived.
