Rainbow-striped flamenco sausage

Surprise - me again, dorkily smiling into nowhere... dum-dee-dum-dee-dum. I should have done The Clean Line! I love how this skirt flares out flamenco-style under the rainbow-striped, alien-fabric sausage dress on top. The purple heels again got nixed at the last moment in favour of my boots - my feet said demurely, "TODAY?! Are you out of your Freaking MIND?!!!..."

And here I am outside. My friend took these. Look how I am breathing! My expression is a bit demented in the second one - I did a little tap-dancy thing and had just landed, plus I don't have a clue how to tap dance.

The look:
  • circle wrap-around cotton skirt reminiscent of a table cloth, about $15 a couple of years ago
  • rainbow-striped, alien-fabric sausage dress, Value Village, an "I-dare-you-to-buy that" purchase (or maybe it was more like "If you buy that, I'll buy this..." I wear this baby by itself in the summer when I'm feeling daring, but I tug it down more so it's not so short and often wear tights with it.
  • long-sleeved black T under the dress, purchased new from an athletic store
  • beret, coat, bag, all thrifted, all loved
  • booties, thrifted, $6
  • cashmere gloves, gift
Happy weekend, everyone!

    1. I wish I had made it from a tablecloth! I will now look for tablecloths to sew - they would make excellent clothes because they often have beautiful patterns.

  2. Once again, a fabulous outfit on a fabulous girl. I love that "I dare you to buy that" mentality. Who knew that shopping could be so dangerous?! The boots and the all black look wonderful with your sausage tube. You can wear a tube like that, but with my shape, I look like a snake that ate an egg and not digested it.

    Much love from England,

  3. Great pictures as always, and I especially love the outdoor shots: hat, gloves, bag, and the coat (!!!!) buttoned the way it is. I love that look and frequently button jackets and coats that way (often out of necessity).

    Enjoy your weekend!

    Love, Jean!

    1. I almost always button only the top button of my coat now, unless it's very cold, because I like that big "A" shape it forms, and in this outfit I like how the wild colours leap out from the gap.

    2. That's exactly what I love about it too! I find it works well with jackets and coats of all lengths.

  6. I love the alien dress! I think my alien is jealous of your alien dress. Maybe I need to take it shopping.

There's a great Ship n' Shore polyester shirt at my local antique store I'm just dying for but don't want to pay 40.00 for it. I think I'll wander in today and talk about a discount. I just love the old 70's patterns and colors.

    1. My alien would love to shop with your alien! Bargaining never hurt. I hope you got a deal on your polyester shirt!

  7. I have been loving the layering of dressing as of late- practicality mixed with sartorial expressions. The striped dress is awesome by the way- I wish more alien sausages would come out of the closet and play.

  9. I LOVE your rainbow sausage. (It's been a while since I said that...)
Anyway - I do love this outfit, you do the layering thing SO well. I am still laughing at Rosemary's comment about the snake and the egg, which pretty much sums up how I would look in that frock too.
But YOU, Madam, look delicious, with the cheeky flamenco frill of the skirt at the bottom. More tap dancing please!
PS. I too am very self-conscious about having my photo taken, so it's an interesting conundrum that we blog pics of ourselves. I've stopped trying to look "good" all the time and am now posting the ridiculous shots. It's liberating! xxxx

    1. I suppose it's like the way of the samurai - there's no need to rush in the rain because wet is wet, or something like that. Once you reach ridiculous, you are ridiculous, so there is no need to fear it any more. I don't know if that makes sense, but that has never stopped me before...

  13. I like the sausage dress and the flounce that wearing it over the skirt creates. Reminds me a bit of dropped waists on flapper dresses.

  16. I love a garment that dares me to buy it, it's the best way of shopping. You carry it around in your bag and keep peeking at it, wondering at the audacity of actually wearing it.
I love this outfit, the combination of the knitted thingy and the flouncy skirt are inspired brilliance I may have to nick off you and try out.
Apparently I look like a "demented owl" in most of my pictures (the ones I don't stick on my blog) xxx
