I was interviewed on June 27 by Lisa Christiansen for the show On The Coast on CBC Radio One, Canada's national radio broadcaster, about Bill Cunningham's impact on my life. She had read my small tribute to Mr. Cunningham on Bag and a Beret and seen my street style blog and wanted to hear my thoughts on life with/without this great man.
If you'd like to hear what I said, go HERE. I'm at time code 01:01:00 for about five minutes. It's only a small part of a show over 2 hours called On The Coast, June 27.
Thank you, Lisa Christiansen and Stephen Quinn, show host, for including me in your broadcast, as well as your kind words at the end of the segment. It was an absolute honour to be able to talk about this incredible man whose positive influence greatly affected my own style journey. He was loved around the world.
[Edit: People living outside of Canada have had difficulty listening to the link above. As a result I have had permission to post the clip, which you'll see in the YouTube below. This should work. Good luck! Heh.]
Lisa took my photo too and it's on her Twitter HERE. That will have to count as an outfit photo because I didn't post one here. Heh.
OMFG, you are a SCHTAR! That Jeanne Bekker is going to regret not responding to my email last year!
ReplyDeleteHahaha. In this case, Bill has all the star power. If I shine here it's only because I'm in the glow Bill casts.
DeleteBut YES, Ms Bekker will regret it BIG TIME! She missed out on all of us.
I loved your tribute on the blog and can understand why it was picked up. Your words were genuine, heartfelt and surely worth sharing. Fame and fortune seeking you out at last Melanie x

I was at a change-point in my life when Bill Cunningham's documentary appeared. He motivated my blog and now about him I've been on the radio. He has definitely moved me. His positive vibes DON'T STOP!
DeleteBill Cunningham has propelled you forward. And yes, his positive vibes don't stop, nor will they. You made a connection even though he didn't know it. Now he will x

Is the stratosphere like the glass ceiling for over-achievers? No fear of that happening!!! Thanks, Samanatha.
DeleteOh sad it won't work on my compute but congrats! I can only imagine how wonderful you sound. I loved Mr Cunningham, he kept on going right to the very end and that is truly inspiring! Very sad that he has departed but so touched to hear everyone's heartfelt responses to his work and life. XX
ReplyDeleteI have been captivated by people's remembrances. I sometimes feel like a fraud sharing my story, not having known him, but as twee as it sounds, the documentary affected my life - I was ready for change.
DeleteWell done you!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Veronica.
DeleteLoved this!

Suzanne
As always, thank you, Suzanne. So much.
DeleteThat is so cool!! I always knew you were great and the world knows too!x
ReplyDeleteNah. This was just timing. Probably somebody cancelled at the last minute. Heh. Thanks, Kezzie.
DeleteDing dangit. I cannot get that broadcast to play on any of my computers. But I am certain that you said wonderful insightful things because that is what you do. Did you know that they lit up the Eiffel Tower French work jacket blue in honor of
ReplyDeleteBill? Bravo.
I didn't know that about the Eiffel Tower display. That is amazing!! How wonderful. I laughed at your perseverance, Connie. Thank you. It was easy to talk about Mr. Cunningham. I'll let you know if I get another clip.
DeleteThe documentary about Bill C are so Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't listen, I will try Another computer later.
DeleteIt seems this won't play for many people. ???!!!
DeleteI'm trying to get a different clip.
That documentary filled me with dreams.

Haha. Yes, I think someone cancelled so I could step. If I'm living the life of a celebrity, I can tell you, it's waaaay overrated!!!
DeleteYou.Are.Amazing! Fabulous words you posted and excellent interview. What an honor to know you👏😊❤️
ReplyDeleteHeh, Trina. No more praise, please, no more praise. Okay, more. Hahaha!! It was a teensy interview, not about me, about Bill. But so cool I could do it! It's an honor to know you too.
Deletegrrr. okay, the first time I tried to listen, nada. I thought it maybe was for Canadians only. I tried again (for some reason) today, and voila, sound. But, I could not get back to your time frame of 1:01. I was stuck at 2:07 and forward. period. Or is it a Canadian conspiracy? Maybe I am powerless with this high tech stuff??!!! argh.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of my inability, you are blessed and cool to boot. Sending out and receiving all those good vibrations.
Yes, it seems to be a Canadian conspiracy. What's up with this archived sound not playing for everyone? Maybe it's copyright stuff...? Who knows?
DeleteBouncing those good vibrations right atcha!!
I can listen to every other program on the list except for that one. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?!!!!!!! *cue dramatic slump to knees*.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, if only we could get your high drama moments on film!! You are the original star, that's for sure. Mwah!!
DeleteWhere is my comment? Please check your spam box? I am sure I commented. Or is my mind leaving me?
ReplyDeleteGreetje
Oh rats... I didn't comment. I commented on the orange suit post.
DeleteHahaha! I do that all the time too, Greetje.
DeleteOooh I heard it! You are impressively articulate xx
ReplyDeleteBig thanks to 'giving permission to host a clip' bods whoever they are xx
And "That documentary filled me with dreams" comment made me cry.
Night, night Bill xx
He was a unique man who ran on passion. I feel a bit of a fraud talking about someone I didn't know in real life, but my vision of Mr. Cunningham, no matter how skewed, was very real and powerful and positive. Thanks for commenting.
DeleteYay! Thanks, Melanie, I heard your fabulous interview! Your (ever so professional) hair video almost makes me want to grow my hair...maybe...or not...
