Yellow Skirt Freak Show Update!! And shopping therapy

Shopping as therapy? Best medicine around for a silly week of highs, lows, and loop-de-loops. Hm, what do we have here? Mega-jumbo pills, jumbo pills... Weeny pills? Pfft - not unless they have enough carats in them to fill my sick appetite.

First dose: vintage faux suede animal print fringed jacket with zip-outable faux fur lining. Grrrr! BAAA! Chomp chomp chomp - animal print eats lamb. Oh, did I say I only paid $20? Bwahaha!! Belch. That mega-jumbo pill went down real nice. Especially with a couple mixed metaphor chasers. Mmm. Sweeet.

But no! Oh no! The mega-jumbo effect is wavering! Quick, more meds!

In the nick of time, heavens almighty - it's a new thrifted faux brocade gothy jacket with silky purple lining, lace-up back, and tails. For the low, low price of $32. Why, that's a whole wheelbarrow of feel-good therapy! If I don't put a stop to this mega-dose madness there's a good chance I'll be cured. Noooo!

Barefoot photos are best. Especially on a super-soft blankie. Lipstick and big hair, yup, that'll do. Plus, going shoeless on my snowy blanket means I don't have to disinfect my dark soul soles first.

Speaking of CURES, it's time for a Travelling Yellow Skirt Freak Show message.
====================================================

The Forest whispered to Her -
Sssssh. Ssssh.
Come, come, bring your magic and
that friggin' Freakish Yellow Skirt.
Hahaha-ha!!!

Ghislana of
has cast a SPELL
silence, poems, musings
DANCING
Join her
Go! GO NOW!!!

Thank you, Ghislana, for joining this travelling show! Her photos and addition to the skirt are magic. And, if you haven't seen it yet, previous FYS stylist Beate has posted all the artworks that have been added to the skirt as of March 2016. You can see them here. Thank you, Beate!
====================================================

Now that you're refreshed, let me drag you back to the pit of Healing through Debauchery. It's the title of my latest book.

Leaping lizards! I'm definitely hopped up just thinking about that removable faux fur zippered lining. Ooooh, yeeeeah. Nyom nyom nyom.

As for the flouncy jacket, I'm not particularly gothy style-wise, but when that psychedelic angle hit me, s-w-i-p-e, MINE! Trippy! Minuet and rock 'n' rock. Dual impossible! Like how the same vitamin can come in coin-sized chewables and guinea-pig sized missiles. Choke on that, you grammarists! Who made that stupid mixed metaphor rule? I smash it joyously.

Speaking of minuets and rock 'n' roll, such sad news that Patty Duke passed away, right?

I bought that ruffled blouse at a thrift shop a few years ago and the green corduroy bell bottoms this year. The jacket sleeves have long slits and often the ruffled blouse sticks out to create a marvelous dunk-in-my-coffee, wipe-the-table-unintentionally, unpaid-cafe-helper effect.

Yes, both of the jackets are physically ample. But they fit. Just fine. These mega-jumbo pills perfectly play out the adage that one must buy quality pieces, like these, that fit well.

You may notice that a few fringes are missing, no doubt lost valiantly in battle, but that's why I love this piece even more. Quality comes in countless levels of perfection.

Well, I'll say, this therapy is working just fine. Pills and lambs and drinks and wheelbarrows and dish rags and guinea pigs and missiles. AND Ghislana in the Freakish Yellow Skirt here. Did I miss anything? I'm sure I did, so I'll have to go buy something else again next week right away.

Tah-tah. Back to normal(ish) life. Aaaah.

Thank you for your comments about my Model Life. Hahaha!! So much fun. Claire, Katrin, Vanessa, all of them are superstars! But I'm happiest in the alley.

    1. Oh, shall we go out for some absinthe? And read dark poetry? No, you can perform the poetry in your show. And sing it too. Thanks, Maryanne, for adding to the splendour.

  2. Fringe missing? Sounds like a job by/for Officer Vizzini (he investigates his own cases). "I see no conflict here, ma'am." That fringey jacket is spectabulous! We should have a fringe-off with my pink suede tentacle jacket!

I am slobbering all over my keyboard over that gothic jacket - it is so amazing. I had one of those Mrs. Fawlty shirts and I swear it was taking over my body - so many ruffles!

You are the schtar of schtars! Going to check the yellow skirt, stat!

    1. Officer Vizzini. Hahaha? Didn't they make a movie about him? Cat Day Afternoon? A fringe-off would be fun.
I thought of you when I saw the jacket, no kidding. You look great in this colour.
So glad to see you, Sheila.

  4. Best kind of thereapy EVER! The only thing missing is maybe a few crazy gal pals (like myself, haha). That gothic jacket I just may have raced you to and I can be pretty dang quick when I need to be, its fabulous! And one of my top ways of pairing purple-with chartreuse, but then you used that brillian Mel brain and added to pop of red ruffles or is it fuscia? Well, its great!

    1. Now that would have been the best-ever thing - have a bunch of girlfriends along to yack with and swap duds with and then eat and drink with, most of all to laugh with. We'd have brawled over this coat for sure. We would have had to call Officer Vizzini. Heh.
Oh yes, I love chartreuse with purple too, but these ruffles were too good top pass up. I'd love one in chartreuse too.
      Great to see you, Trina!

    1. When I originally wrote this post I included a couple lines from the Thompson Twins, "Doctor, doctor, can't you see I'm burning, burning..." Heh. I just wasn't picturing the right doctor.
Thrifting is good for a temporary fix, but only if you don't spend a lot and can follow it up with chocolate and good coffee or a favourite pastry. Heh.
      Thanks, Carol, for your comment.

      I vote for Melanie.
      Have a great weekend - it's gonna snow here...yikes!

  8. Sometimes I really don't know what you're talking about. Good thing your posts are illustrated! I just lurve (British spelling of loooove) that frilly bar-towel blouse and the gothy jacket and the trousers. The colors are divine, and your hair is divoon. Yes, Patty Duke and her identical cousin are both dead, along with half the population born in 1946, it seems. I guess you really can't do lots of sex and drugs and rock-n-roll and live forever.

You as the new Doctor! I'd actually watch it then!

      Thanks, Val. Hugs to you!

sometimes i wonder who owns such marvelous pieces first time? do you see such on the streets of your city? or has the 2.hand shop a direct line to vegas/hollywood???
once there was a pop up store in berlin that sold norwegian vintage - it was like wonderland! not overly fancy stuff - but QUALITY! sweaters, furs, evening dresses to swoon..... norway is a rich country. with style.
    thanks for linking!

    1. I almost never see the high-end expensively but cool designs on the street. NEVER. I often wonder how those stores stay in business. I suppose I run with a different crowd. Heh. I heard a rumour that some shops import from Texas area. I know that several just put out what they receive in donations - I've seen my own pieces on the racks again. And I heard that all the really good vintage goes to the UK!!!

Norwegian vintage - WOW! That would be such a treat! Oh yes, the quality would be amazing. Wearing those pieces you would feel like a queen.

Thanks for your comment, Beate! And your FYS photos.

  14. Should the vintage faux suede animal print fringed jacket with zip-outable faux fur lining meet the travelling yellow skirt - there will be consequences. Oh yes.

I shall try debauchery therapy in respect of my modern mystery illness. I'm busy making man-robe bustles by flinging the length behind me (once wearing), tying the belt half way down the length and poofing the fabric up around the hips. Someone needs to invent clothing hairspray.

You look terrific - esp in that last photo where you are wielding the remote like a Bond villain.

    Sincerely

Clothing hairspray? Hahaha!!! I'd buy it. Your man robes sounds awesome! Sorry about your mystery illness. Get out there with some serious debauching.

And I love how you see a Bond villain in the last photo. I was feeling particularly villainous that day.

Thanks for your comment, dear Elaine.

  15. I'm happy to see the Freakish Yellow Skirt on the road and making new friends again! I've been watching the HBO series "Vinyl", about the music industry in the 1970's, and both of these outfits would fit right in with the show. I like the idea of some of the fringe being lost in a skirmish. Purple, Fuschia (or is it red?) and green is a fabulously psychedelic combo.

    1. Yes, I think the jacket has seen its share of bars. It doesn't smell foul, thank goodness, but I think it has led a very interesting life that will maybe rub off on me. So far, so good.

The skirt always seems to be in such good hands. I'm so glad we put her out there again and am still immensely thankful for your huuuuge role in her journey.

Thanks for your comment, Shelley, as always!

  17. Oh gosh... this post stretched my knowledge of the English language. But that is a good thing. I am still trying to sneak "persnickity" into conversations haha.
Had to laugh over "a marvelous dunk-in-my-coffee, wipe-the-table-unintentionally, unpaid-cafe-helper effect". I love the purple and red. The shapes, the colour. OK the green is pushing it a bit for me. You would completely disappear in my living room as that has all these colours. Have you ever seen my living room? (if not, type in colourful living room on my bog in the search box top right).
Love you, you mad woman. And shopping is a very good therapy for me too. Now I am off to see the yellow skirt styled in yet another way.
