I casually strolled by Fluevog's Water Street shoe store last week on my way home from the art opening, stupidly forgetting the supernatural powers of the maxi cheongsam dress (as seen in last post) that I was wearing at the time. And look what happened!
I walked out with green shag-carpet boots. I circled the table they were on like a cat purring. Daintily I picked up said boot and peered into its sole until my hair stood on end - it was a cosmic connection: the sticker said $269 down to $99. I had to pounce! Considering I wore these boots TWICE already last week, I figure I'm practically making money from this investment.
These boots have an open toe AND an open heel - the heel is difficult to see with all the shag bits - and an inside seam zip and stacked wood platforms. I justified this purchase as a reward for winding up my art gallery activities.
Of course I was feeling very hieroglyphic in this shagariffic footwear. The blues and greens are like Fight Club on my legs. These new boots definitely are appropriate for Patti's Visible Monday gathering. I'll see you all there!
Details of the outfit:
- Fluevog brand boots, The Jericho, $99 new
- satin neon orange sleeveless blouse, thrifted
- satin dark blue top, hand-me-over
- red beret, thrifted
- blue stretch skirt, sample sale, $10?
- gold bag, hand-me-over
- inspiration: Egypt and Fluevogs
I'm wondering if you ever buy things that make you squeamish. These boots are like that for me - gross green, suede, and deliciously, naughtily out of bounds!
I've Visible Monday involved a prize--you would take FIRST PLACE with these marvelous boots! And good for you for indulging yourself.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE those shoes on you! I tried them on when I was at the Gastown store in March, but they didn't work for me - I'm so glad you got them! They look great with the aqua!
ReplyDeleteOMG Incredible boots - and of course, they're Fluevog! Totally awesome. I love totally over the top things, it makes life interesting. Most recently I just ordered some geta-inspired boots.
ReplyDeleteWow, geta-inspired boots? Those I've got to see! I love geta footwear.
DeleteYES YES YES!!! I ADORE these amazing boots and they are perfect with this outfit. The colours, the shapes, the attitude... you are a walking artwork! Sarah xxx
ReplyDeleteSuede fringy boots are sooooo you. Some things are just destined to come home with us.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely amazing! I love all the colours and the fringed boots! I bet you're going to wear them a lot - the green colour is so beautiful! And the price reduction - they were practically a gift!
ReplyDeleteSome things just 'call your name' don't they. You look so happy in them!! M x
ReplyDeleteYes, some items just speak to you and defy all reason and INSIST on being bought! They are amazing boots, and I predict that you will always feel happy and inspired when you wear them, so that's definitely worth the money, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteLove the heel as much as all the fringing (I also predict that Vix will LOVE and covet them!)
The bright shiny orange of that shirt is making me smile, as is the blue/green combination, always a winner with me.
Half of what I buy is viewed as ridiculous and out-of-bounds by other people, if not by me! Do you feel blogging helps you not to have so many restrictions? It does for me. I think to myself, "what would Desiree/Vix/Sarah/Melanie et al do?" And then I find myself wearing all manner of weird and wonderful clothes and combinations!
Now go - walk like an Egyptian! xxxx
I was humming that song, Walk Like an Egyptian by the Bangles, all through writing this post. Definitely blogging has opened up my style universe. I love playing with clothing and I get tremendous inspiration from you(!) and so many others!! I would not have purchased these boots a year ago - I'd have admired them but not taken them home with me. So THANKS to you for inspiring. Excuse me now while I practise my Egyptian walk...
Deleteyour shoes are to die for! Love your outfit, they always bring me smile and joy. I wish I could you on the street everyday in the morning :)

What incredibly fun boots. Great colour. Seeing how much fun you are already having with them, I would say that they are a great investment!
ReplyDeleteSome things do have that way of working themselves onto our closets. WE know they are horrid but there is some unexplainable appeal to them. My latest of such purchases was a pair of JC knock offs with the American flag. I love the fact that they are really tacky and remind me of the 70's!
ReplyDeleteThose booots are one of those items, ugly but yet so appealing, a bit like Steve Buscemi- It'd totally do them. Both of them. LOL
Ha Ha! Yes, about Steve Buscemi!
DeleteExtra bonus points for the boots! Even the most drab corporate suit would be blown away with such an accessory. I dare you to try and tame them...or even make them wilder. Can't be done, I tell you, can't be done. They are a feat unto themselves!
ReplyDeleteThose Fluevogs were the first shoes that made me question John F's sanity. ;-) They are totally Cray-cray but you make them SING. Wheeeee!
ReplyDeleteOh WOW. I think if I'd seen them without feet, my mouth would have hung open, and I would have been with Megan, all "Wut de heck?" But with your feet in them, they are so perfectly perfect and crazy elegant. Again. Oh WOW.
ReplyDeleteIt's very intresting you put four colours in two similar tons together.
ReplyDeleteI always love those nuances of green!
I *love* the way you do math, Melanie - and yes!! to those boots. You work them like no other could. Love the whole look, and thanks for sharing your fab self with Visible Monday.
ReplyDeleteThese shoes are fantastic, but what I really love is the whole mash-up.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm out in something I love and people ONLY look at the one thing, like the boots for example, I consider my look to be incomplete or lopsided. If they look at me, the whole picture, I am satisfied that I have achieved the balance I was looking for. Thanks.
DeleteAh, so subtle. . . ;-)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I'm avoiding that shop assiduously right now. . . but my current Wants, albeit metallic silver and bright orange, respectively, are positively Conservative compared to your glorious find. Enjoy!
Okay, subtle, not really working here LOL. I think I wore all black the next day...
DeleteYou, and The Green & Shaggy Head-Turners look so happy with each other! I love Curtise's comment, especially when she mentioned that having a blog can be justification for purchases like these. There have been a few times when I have bought a few things where I was thinking about what a great photo they would make!
ReplyDeleteI FRIGGIN' LOOOOVE THEM! And they look so GOOOOOOD on you! Very visible, very wonderful, very Fluevog!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Those are wild! They're soooo you, Melanie. I like how the heel has different colors! How else do you plan to wear them?
ReplyDeleteI know that marvelous feeling you're talking about when high priced item is marked so low it makes your heart skip a beat...and you just have to buy it!
Naughtily out of bounds is the best place to be! ;) They are perfect for you and what a deal you got on them too. Fantastic!! They go with all your paintings too.
ReplyDeleteI'm totally interested in your layering choices here too. I need to be more fearless!
If I could find some purple bell bottoms I'd feel just the way you do in your shaggy heels. ;)
I could absolutely see you in purple bell bottoms! Some star-kist day at Value Village could answer your call...
DeleteELLLL OH ELLLL!!! I am cracking up and laughing out so very loud!!!! I don't know where to begin, you are such a crack up Melanie. :-) The cosmic connection between the shoe and you coupled with a BARGAIN, I am ready to pass out in pleasure right now! I LOVE YOUR OUTFIT!!!! Oh, and one more thing. I have been CRAVING a serious Clint Eastwood since I saw you in that cowboy hat, so stay tuned!!!! SHAGARIFFIC FOOTWEAR RULES FOREVER!!!
ReplyDeleteThe song that popped into my head when I saw this outfit: Grazing in the Grass. It's a Gas. Baby, can you Dig It?
ReplyDeleteOp, gotta go load that onto my ipod. Melanie, I totally dig you!
Connie*
I just YouTubed that song. Oh yeah, baby! I remember that! Groovy song, I'm definitely diggin' it with this.
DeleteI love them! You're amazing. They really look fabulous. mmm I love mixing blue and green, you've done it perfectly! I've just bought some brothel creeper-cum-brogue things that make me feel squeamish but amazing! xxxx
ReplyDeleteKeep up the fabulousness!
Curtise is right, I love them SOOOOOO much! In fact I have the same colour tights so I think you should share them with me, I promise to look after them and take them to hang out in loads of cool places. xxx
ReplyDeleteMelanie, I think they are tres cool magnificent! They are just right for you. I so enjoy seeing the joyful outfits you put together. They make me smile and brighten my day.
ReplyDeleteHow can you KEEP from smiling with these boots on? This entire color palate has me grinning ear to ear!
ReplyDeleteNaughty! Naughty! Well done you to listen to the "inner child" in you and go for what made your heart sing. It takes a "stand out from the crowd" girl to wear boots like that! I can only guess the adventures you are going to have in these.
ReplyDeleteLove from England,
Rosemary from www.foreveronthecatwalkoflife.com
I really like the color combination of your outfit & I love the fact that you always take risks with it..The green shaggy boots are lovely & I can inagine how good it felt buying it at that price..
ReplyDeleteI love those shoes, great find and buy! I love shoes with fringe. I often get excited when I find great finds at the thrift store. I got the most fabulous green sequin dress that I will be wearing during the holidays and I say when I found it I was pretty squeamish! Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteCarrie
I saw this post on my phone but had to ingest the full meal on my laptop!! I've loosened my belt now, and am totally satiated with this delicious cornucopia. Mmmmm. Color, texture, movement. A psychologist friend of mine recently expressed the opinion that people, like other animals, respond to "treats". Your Fluevogs are a treat, indeed!! Congrats on all your hard work and the rewards as well. I'd buy those shoes in a heartbeat too.
ReplyDeleteMy dear Melanie...your fashion risk taking is forever inspiring! I actually bought a recent 'overall jumpsuit' piece from Anthropologie...you adventurous spirit the inspiration! I have realized i was simply tired of doing the same silhouette as mainstream...I'm still trying to get it right...but you are the inspiration ...to take a risk...Thank You!
ReplyDeleteOh I can hear them as they sat on the table, "Buy Me" "Buy Me" you fabulous lady, I have been waiting for someone to love me and wear me in a way that I will sing!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd sing they do, I just love them Miss Melanie, the best statement green shaggy booty shoes ever!!!!!
Love v
Tienes un premio en mi blog, porque tu blog es fantástico, original, real, me ha enganchado, me hace ver las cosas del otro lado que nadie vé y tú si, el arte de ser y vivir y lo sincero de tu ser, por lo que transmites, besos ana.
ReplyDeleteFirst time here. I love your funky , colorful style and your happy spirit!
ReplyDeletehave a nice day !
The boots are as fabulous as you! I love everything about them from the open toes and heels, the interesting wood platforms, the shag and the price. Amazing riot of color, especially the orange neon blouse. Your decision making is right on target.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you write, it makes me giggle in a way that's unhelpful when I'm trying to pretend that I'm working♥
ReplyDeleteOh my! They are gorgeous, but you really can walk in those? If yes how far do you go?
ReplyDeleteThis is a steal 99$ wow!
Love the green an d turquoise clor mix, i have to remember this scheme!
Original as ever and this is why we like you so much!
Ariane xxxxx
So glad you're back from your incredible trip!! You inspired me with this outfit - when I wore my other outrageous Fluevogs a while back I toned them down a bit in my choice of clothes - you said, Why?! So I remembered this time, plus I was feeling very exuberant.
DeleteThose shoes, if you can believe it, are VERY comfortable and I can walk more far in them than many of my other heels! With the open toe and heel there is no friction so I don't get any tightness or blisters at all. And the heel is not very high because of the platform. I was shocked and of course extremely happy to find this out! As my feet get more sensitive I think I'll give platform shoes a second look more often now.
I can see why these beauties had to be yours, you have totally made them sing in this outfit! I love them paired with all these colors and different fabrics, you look so free and happy!
ReplyDeleteI can see why these beauties had to be yours, you have totally made them sing in this outfit! I love them paired with all these colors and different fabrics, you look so free and happy!
ReplyDeleteWow who knew fluevog made shoes that cool-not me!! No surprise you've been stopping people in the streets, you're a complete showstopper even without the shoesies.xx.

ReplyDeleteThanks, Lyosha! You know I'm a fan of your blog!
DeleteWow!!! Your blog is so much fun! I love your style and your energy . . . and I am hoping that by following your journey, some of that exhilaration will rub off on me. I can not say this without also saying how fabulous your art is. Happy, happy, happy . . . I would be overwhelmed if you would visit and decide to follow me back. I feel that your blog has raised the bar. Have a marvelous weekend, Connie :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Connie above - your blog really is fun - like you I imagine! These shoes/boots are really you, and a super deal. I've always heard Fluevogs are comfy, but haven't bought a pair since the "Fox and" days.
ReplyDeleteOMG OMG OMG darling!!! I would have been sqeeing whilst you were purring!
ReplyDeleteThose boots are TO DIE FOR!!! I adore the colour, and love the thought of prancing about with that fabulous fringing! They go great with those amzeballs tights!EEEK! I love 'em! A well deserved treat, and also, there's no one who could do them justice they way you can!

XXXXXX
Adds a whole new twist to shake you booty! Love the fringe. You HAD to buy them otherwise who knows what might have become of them?
ReplyDeleteI was delighted when I opened my blog this morning and there you were. not only did you leave a lovely comment, but you're a follower as well. Be still my heart . . . every-time I get a new follower my poor old heart skips a beat (in a good way of course . . . no heart attacks here). Sounds like you're quite the musician . . . strings and keyboard. I'm looking forward to getting to know you better and in getting inspired to liven up my wardrobe a bit. Have a great day, Connie :)
ReplyDeleteI have no words to descrive how much I like this boots... ohhhhh I looove it... my eyes turn into a big big red hearts
