Pastel-nicotine faux fur

What could be lovelier than a pastel-nicotine faux fur coat with an oversized hood worn with spirograph pants and top?

This look says WAAAKE UPPP!!! I was flashing people all morning in this sensationally googly-eyed ensemble.
Boing, boing, boing, FLASH
Boing, boing, boing, FLASH

Ooo, you naughty!

Details
  • dizzy graphic turtleneck, thrifted
  • dizzy graphic pants, Talbots, thrifted
  • stretch wedge booties, thrifted
  • pastel nicotine coat, thrifted
  • green beret, gift from sensational Ariane
  • black leather belt, thrifted (I should have repositioned it before I took the photo, oh well)
  • fingerless gloves, upcycled from Canadian Tire automotive store
The pants are too large - they sit on my hips - but I like that slidey feeling. And they are made by...you'll never guess - Talbots, a somewhat upscale women's retailer. They have some of the most groovetastic clothing cleverly camouflaged within their somewhat sedate shops, not that I shop there - I find what I need in the thrift shops. I've worn the top several times before, my favourite being here.

I shall link this up with Patti's fantastic Visible Monday crowd over at Not Dead Yet Style. I'm lurking, commenting when I can, but your thoughtful, stylish, witty posts give me the energy to get through these busy days. Everyone is incredibly inspiring, I mean that. Thank you so much. Have a fantastic week!

  1. The pants and turtleneck look like they're made for each other. I thought it was a one piece jumpsuit at first. Love the green topper and furrrrrr.

  2. I scout Talbot's to see what to look for in the consignment shops - I love their stuff! There was a fabulous polka-dot skirt there a year or so ago that I've been watching for.

I love the pants and top together - you can never have too much! The fur is divine!

  3. If I came across you "boing boing FLASH"ing away, I would screech rather loudly with delight!!! Such a divoon coat, and what better or lovelier than a super furry pastel-nicotine faux fur and a black and white ensemble?! Probably just YOU boinging into range, that's all!

  4. That coat is perfection, I think I'd explode with joy if I came across something that fabulous and the Spirograph pants are wonderful, I love that slidey feeling on the hips, too. Stuff that fits seems limiting and a bit mean! xxx

  5. Absolutely wonderful, my dear Melanie.
    Always pure art in motion.

  6. Same as Lisa, I thought positively you were wearing a jumpsuit. Unbelievable that the turtleneck and pants found each other. You're a true match-maker, Melanie.

  7. Yes Yes Yes Yes YES!!! The coat is EXQUISITE and I LOVE the top and pants - especially TOGETHER. Because life's too short to be subtle. This has gone - with a bullet! - to my All Time Favourite Outfits Ever list!

  11. Those trousers are from Talbots? Wow, they are eye-poppingly awesome, as is the rest of the look. Thanks for bringing it over to brighten the day at Visible Monday xoxoxoxo

  12. Niiiice styling! Man, that coat is awesome. I have a small (weird) obsession with the slightly upscale store Cache and love it when I score something from them thrifting, I think it's their penchant for high quality lurex and gold embellishments...

  13. I love that you describe the coat as nicotine pastel, you funny! The outfit would wake me up and make my day if I saw you sporting this. I also like a store called Cache but don't own anything, it's like crazy resort wear!

  14. My eyes, my eyes! If I was drunk, I might have to lie down at the sight of all that swirling graphic print. Luckily I'm not... The top and trousers do look like a crazy op art 60s catsuit, which in my book is A Very Good Thing. And the coat is all kinds of fabulous! We need to see it with the hood up, like the Snow Queen!
    You naughty indeed! xxxxx

  15. Deeply disappointed that there is only one photo. We need more! Poses! Facial expressions! Yay!!!!!

  16. Wow--good thing I don't drink!! I LOVE the psychedelic freak-out of the patterns!!
The pop of the green beret just "caps" off all of the fabulousness.

I SO NEED a fur coat!

  17. So that's what a polar bear looks like on the inside. And of course Ariane would send you a bright green toque!

  18. Holy Fuck! I wish I could be flashed face to face- you look joltingly gorgeous! I love the wild riot of print and the pimpin' faux fur, but best is that bright green beret!

  19. Woo! Totally awesome print match. A match made with genius. I have had many talbots pieces that are surprisingly fantastic. Their quality is usually always nice too.

  20. Like everyone else, I thought that was a fabulous jumpsuit. The coat is gorgeous. It's the perfect length, which isn't always easy to find in a faux fur. Great outfit!

  21. Nicotine fur. Yes, get that. If you are flashing folks, then your're making their day. Great look, liitle cat.

  22. No: those pants are NOT from Talbot's. Shut UP! You just blew my mind.

  23. If I saw you in this outfit on the street, it would make my day! The prints are fabulous! :)

  24. I haven't heard the term nicotine used to describe a color before, but it's absolutely on the mark. I plan to use the word myself in the future!

Excellent combination of graphics with a touch of green. You are a mood enhancer!

  25. Wow....Wow...and Wow....I thought that was a jumpsuit at first too. James Bond could have used you in that outfit to hypnotize the enemy!

  26. Lovely lovely lovely!!! The top and the trousers just go together perfectly. And I'm really jealous of the jacket, it's just what the doctor ordered for this cold weather!!!

    PS: I'm now at www.hellothemushroom.com

There seem to have been a few hickups with the website but it should be resolved by now :)

  27. I'm getting I want to pet and cuddle you out of this smashing ensemble :) I am rather a ditz for a divine faux fur. I tried on a black coat similar to this while thrifting recently, and when I saw myself in the mirror, loudly announced, "Grrrrrrrrr, I'ma a grizzly bear cub."

You know I always thought grandmas wore Talbots until about two years ago I went into a local store and discovered I'ma a grandma, sans the grand kidlets. I've happily thrifted several Talbots items.

  29. Well, sha-zam! Another "knock-out" outfit. Love your green beret. I have one exactly like it. Maybe I should do a blog post featuring it? As usual, you're looking FAB.

  32. Can't BELIEVE you made TALBOTS look avant-garde!

    ReplyDelete
  33. And you always manage just the exactly right amount of nicotine flavour, too, as I recall from your shirt-button-DIY-collar post - how do you do it? How??? So sharply, loopily Spirographic-wiry on the inside and so wooly bully furrily cosy on the outside! YUM.

  34. You are a beacon, a veritable siren of flashing style, beaming across those blog waves. Like Bella, I only wish I could witness this ensemble face-to-face.
