Rain defiance outfit

I was a slug until I put this on. Colour. How else could I possibly face the day? How else could I channel the magnificence flowing through the cosmos? This is my Rain Defiance outfit.

You've probably seen all these outfit pieces before in other mixes... But today I'm wearing my glasses for a little retro smackage. And when I wear them outside, I almost ALWAYS wear the matching magnetic clip-on shades (even at night), which are of course ultra-cool in their geek factor.

And below, I am checking the tastiness of the air... not so sweet. This photo was taken at about 1:30 p.m. just to give you an idea of how dark the days get here at this time of year when it's raining.

I am linking this up with Patti's fabulous Visible Monday at Not Dead Yet Style. I'll see you all there in fits and starts this week. Let's raise a glass to Patti too, who is in the middle of a big move. Cheers, Patti!! Have a great week everyone, rain or shine.

PS. I wanted to wear a maxi today but rain is not a good friend to it hemline. I must wait for sunshine.

  1. Glorious. I think I have the same nerdy clip-ons. Joey got them for me because I can't see, ever, and he's tired of it. You look great. I want to be you in my next life, please? Your color/print-combining magic is an art form, in and of it's self. Maybe it's that Northwestern air.

Sending you hugs, my favorite artist.

  4. Your usual fabulosity! A gorgeous mix of colors and you create a bit of mystery with the shades, especially at night. It does look dark in your part of the world at this time of year when it rains at 1:30 pm. Maybe you need a visit to sunny Colorado.

  5. You brightened up my day too! I find colorful stripes especially cheering.

  6. Rain should fear you in your bright colours!! Great fun.

  7. Wow, yes! The coat, worn with all those colors is just wow, yes! I must try defying the rain here in Oregon, but it's a tall order. Thanks for giving me a good lesson!

  8. Oh yes, today was indeed a dark day in Vancouver. Your red beret is a gorgeous bit of defiance! Ariane suggested a visit to your blog. It did not disappoint. Also here via Visible Monday.

  9. If I saw you walking towards me in the street on such a glum wintery day I would simply HAVE to hug you, grab you a seat at the nearest cafe, buy you a cuppa and DEMAND you tell me the story of your life and thank you for being the most scrumptious bint on the block. Then I would arse-squeeze you. xoxoxo

  10. Color is absolutely what is needed on a dreary, rain drenched day.
I hear Seattle set a record for most rainfall in this day....and darkness falls way too early for my sun deprived soul. Thanks for sharing your mood elevating prescription.

  11. Ooh ooh ooh, I do love the pattern on that coat! And mixed with the candy stripes and the raspberry legs and beret, and your cool/geeky shades, you look wonderfully bright and eclectic and funky and bright again! Oh dear, it does look dark... We are starting to have those days which never really get properly light too, dull and heavy kind of days. Colour is undoubtedly the way to approach them!
PS. At the back of my house we have a sweet factory. On a good day, you can taste humbugs in the air. As pollution goes, it's not so bad! xxxxx

  12. I need an outfit like this right now, maybe it's the only light I could bring to the gray morning, a rainbow and a clashing pattern is the most powerful antidote for the gloomy day! You look amazing in your vintage shades!

  13. The more shitty the weather, the brighter the outfit, that's the law.
You kicked the rain's ass and looked totally gorgeous whilst you were at it. xxx

  14. You radiate positive energy in yyour colors!

  15. Yes! Smack that weather around with color! Show it who's boss.

  16. Does your coat say something? In the close up, the pattern looks likes letters, but I can't make it out...Do tell. Meanwhile, you obviously outshine the weather, no contest. Keep up the good work of defiance weather wear, we have a long way to go yet.

  17. I totally agree with Vix. Why do people wear dark, sad colors in the winter? It's bad enough it's been getting dark before 6pm. I even change my bedding to light colors, to cheer me up.

  18. Far more chic that geek my lovely!!

  19. I love Vix's rule that the brightness of your clothing is proportional to the dullness of the weather. You must have been a glowing beacon of cheer in your fab colours as you were strolling in the gloom and the rain. I know I would have raced across the street to take your photo!

  20. Feck the rain I'm drowning it in over here. This bright outfit sure does tell the rain where to go and I bet passerby's have to smile once you come into view. I wear bright colors all year long I need them most in the darker days so thanks for spreading a little sunshine with your outfit!!!

  21. I know - I desperately wanted bright colours yesterday! Hopefully today will be brighter (I see a little blue sky!).

    Love your long coat!

  22. That's the only way to go out -- barrels of colour and print! Otherwise, better just to stay home with the blinds down -- it's way too grey!

  23. You are clearly some kind of sunny superhero. I would have run into a wall wearing those clip-ons on a dark rainy day - or at night :)

  24. Yeap! Color the only way to go i say!
Does not matter if we have seen the clothes already the trick and not always easy is to remix the same pieces a different way -
You do it well Mélanie -

Everybody wears black now so depressing - i am a bomb of colors- you should see me today!

  27. I love your combo of colours and patterns. I especially love the horizontal stripes - more ernie than bert. In Christchurch we have an artist called Tony Cribb who did a painting called the yellow balloon of hope. I wonder whether your yellow skirt could be the yellow skirt of hope - I'm looking forward to seeing where is ends up!

  31. You are the most ultra cool woman I 'know'. Love this outfit. I would trade you some sunshine for some rain. We desparately need it here.

  32. You sure will brighten up a grey day. It's grey and miserable here too, so I wore my red, blue and yellow tartan kilt, to help give me the courage to fight through the floods on my way to work. M x

  33. It's grey, grim and wet over here too, but your outfit is inspiring. I love the coat and the go-go boots, and with the colours they are perfect. And you manage to look cosy at the same time!

  34. Melanie, I just love this look! You have mixed color, patterns, and texture so fearlessly. I'm always telling my clients that the worst thing we can be in fashion is boring. It should be an art form, a self-expression and you have epitomized that. I just adore that gorgeous coat! Thanks for commenting on my blog so I could find yours!!! ~Sarah

  40. Damn straight the rain needs a raspberry! That daytime gloom is just not right. On the plus side, your zig-zag stripes and print of your coat and your whole being are pulsing with defiance, lady!!! You are so awesome.

We've been here lucky to not - yet - have to deal much with the damp hem nuisance, but it's a-comin' for sure.
