Gowning in the alley with a hat condition

Boing. I'm back.

That's my beret in my hand. It's not really a hat attack, more like a chronic hat condition. See my hat in action below. (I think the frame is bigger over at YouTube.) Hello, Style Crone, I'm so happy to join your hat celebration, Hat Attack No. 2. Although this shoot from Aug 30 wasn't planned for the occasion, how happy I am that it works. Raw footage, style parkouring with Sandra.

A hard rain scoured the ground in the dark. When the sun came out, the back lanes were not pristine, not putrid either - I couldn't say the same for the previous day Sandra and I filmed there. This is the perfect location to capture our kwalidy and crassmanship on film. Despite the breezeless day we stumbled upon a mighty wind blowing eau de fries and fish from the ventilation shaft directly behind and above me. It was for Art, ladies and gentlemen.

Wearing: thrifted black satin opera gown with thrifted black T underneath, magic loupe O made me, beaded lucky charm bag, D&G thrifted shoes, thrifted indigo wool beret.

This dress is by Deborah Davenport who specializes in couture clothing, $12 from my local thrift, worn yesterday, Aug 31. Apparently Ms Davenport is now buddies with Dr. Phil (big Hollywood pop-psychologist person) and this dress was probably made to measure for someone Important (yeah, me) with hand-stitched lining, etc. The dress fits like a glove. It's so tight at the knees, in fact, that I had use the cut curbs at crosswalks because I wasn't sure I could climb onto the sidewalk on the other side (not kidding). Sandra guided me on my walk home. Again, for Art.

We're filming for VOGOFF. Hilarity and Serious Fashion ensue. Drahma, dahlings. Miz Bagg is practising her krumping and twerking but is not quite ready for prime time.

I hope you are all well. I flit about, here, there, here, there. Hugs to you!! You are all extraordinary inspiration. Have you got your groove on? See you soon. I'm also invisibly connecting to Patti's Visible Monday, which is on holiday this week.

Question: So what happens when you find your mind?

  1. O my, the coolness that is you! I can smell the French fries...

  3. Your video of gowning is sort of Isadoresque, but with a beret instead of scarves. It's inspired! Such a shame the police came a chased you off (they were coming for YOU, weren't they?). And I love the retro blue dress, too. You need a hat for that outfit.

What I do when I find my mind depends on where my mind is. If it's sleeping, I let it continue to sleep. If it's in a compromising position, I take a photo. If it's out to lunch, I'm usually with it.

  7. I was waiting for you to throw the beret in the air like Mary Tyler Moore... ah well : ) You can arch your back like the best porn actresses around. (So I've been told)

That blue dress looks like it was made for you.

    bisous

  8. What do you mean, WHEN I FIND MY MIND?!! That implies you think I've lost it. Well, I mean, I don't THINK I've lost it, but maybe you have a point. I have been rather confused lately.

Your glamorous swirling and Sandra's encouraging commentary make me totally jealous that you have a partner in crime. MUST FIND ONE>>

The skinny-shimmy dress is brilliant on you, and as always, your hair is the perfect accessory. XXXXOOOO!!!!

  9. You have thrown me into Hat Attack mode with your chronic hat condition! It's the big one this time. Could the video be more perfect? Gowning has never looked so good!

The Deborah Davenport is incredible on you. But then, you embody art.

  10. Melanie in motion, what more could a person ask?

Will the next issue of VOGOFF be comprised of vlogs?

The blue dress suits you to a T!

  13. Wow! Such elegance, and all in one package! No wonder there is too much of it and it drifts off and sparkles up the web-o-sphere.

    Much love from England,

  14. I am still contemplating that one. I recently just found mine, after losing it for about 7 years. It definitely feels different. Indeed, the world is not the same anymore. :-)

Your dresses are amazing and so are you, I love seeing you in ACTION! That LBD (little blue dress) is perfect x 10!

    XOXOXOXOXOXOXOX!

  16. I try to keep my mind with me most times, as my livelihood depends on it, but I do find it tends to drift away on weekends, like this one. Depending on where it's been, I either welcome it back, or make it sit outside for a while until it calms down.

Both dresses are wonderfully dramatic, but I do think the blue one needs a hat too. I wish I could back bend like that ;)

  17. Ha, look at you, posing in the fish'n'chips-scented breeze! It's all about the glamour, darling. That satin evening dress looks stunning on you, Melanie, and having Sandra around to capture all The Fun and the Art on video is wonderful.
And your 1940s film noir-style dress is a beauty, even if you can't walk fast or go up steps in it. You need a hard-bitten PI to lend a hand (ie. Sandra - she's a good pal!) The dress looks as though it was indeed made for you.
So - more Vogoff in the pipeline? Miz Bagg will be cracking her sartorial whip, no doubt. Looking forward to seeing the results! xxxxx

  18. I say, you have bend back-ability in spades! And your blue couture is too cool, fer sure. Yea, Vogoff is on again.

I guess this is what happens when I've lost my mind...

  19. Oh my gosh, you are the most amazing woman! I love the insanely artistic black-and-white shot, and then the huge contrast with you in that oh-so-tailored dress. Love love LOVE!

  20. Always for art. People would be shocked if they knew how bad costumes smelled at the end of a run.

Second dress is a wonder, love all the buttons.

  21. some very pretty dresses they look fabulous on you and some great pictures!! ~love Heather

  22. Stunning Melanie. That first photograph is truly a work of art. Can't wait to see what you come up with in terms of video for Vogoff!

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's so awesome to see you in live action, modeling in interpretive dance.

  24. Award winning film. Like Mary Tyler Moore on drugs! I think you're going to make it after all. And that dress is some kind of gorgeous. So you can't walk very well. It is better to look good than to be able to move...or something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. What art will make us do. But I will say, you are BEEEEEEEA-UTIFUL in that blue dress! Your eyes and hair are just amazing, even if you have to be helped up and down from sidewalks. The video was way fun. You are a model. Love it!!

    XOXO

  34. O wowzers what an art fest, the pose in the first photo, your brilliant film (more of such like please please please!) and that beautiful blue glove of a dress. I feel thoroughly spoilt by this inspiring post!

  35. Welp, whether murmur, blockage, hardening, or even proplapse, lard knows some of us are born with these things but your gowning there smells contagious, caught a whiff I did.

Sure a doll in that level-ground fine blue casing, buttons a-curve with your eyes all over and such. Can't say as I rightly know what happens a mind is found, never seen it done. Rashes, I suspect.

  36. Oh, the blog world needs an army of Sandras and many more wind tunnels. Amazing still.

  37. Coming a week late to say how fantastic your pictures are. I am an opera fan, and I wish the singers I go to see were as stunning as you.

  41. When I find my mind it usually wants to focus on gratitude. The bad thing about losing it is that I lose perspective on what's really important.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thoroughly enjoyed the video. Especially when you laugh when something fails. Brings you near.
    Lovely opera dress and necklace.
And the blue dress is also awesome. Am I spotting a cute red box bag??
And you said it, I thougt it when I looked at the video: things we do for art haha.

  43. I am now a fan of style parkouring, as done by you of course. I bet you got some fantastic photos. That thrifted dress is rather special too, you look fantastically rich and important and like you have a million things to do and probably a country to run, the power of a dress. and the heels too xx

  44. loving the frock and gown action my lovely and my mind has gone forever, i am incapable of answers and skulk away in shame! x

  45. See? Already, only onto my second catch up post and I've needed two margaritas and a valium.

The black and white pic makes me WEEP. You are DIVINE.

The video is fab - I want to make videos with you and Sandra. WANT.

Apparently the last word of my sentences must be in CAPS.

And the blue frock is utterly exquisite. You are so elegant and stunning and PERFECT.

Wait until I've had another cocktail or two - I will no doubt propose marriage. I'm SORRY.

VOGOFF, you say??? Oooh la la!!! Am I too late?

  46. Your videos are charming, to say the least! I think the gown works on all levels...love the concrete wall and the artful and no doubt tempting blower! Very elegant (if not a trifle steam punk) indeed!
AWESOME blue dress...can I go thrifting with you sometime???

  47. As for the universe question: depends on WHERE you are in WHICH universe. I refer you to "The Hidden Reality" by Brian Greene.

And, my dear, I think we're going to be very good friends.
