Rock star pants escape Space Bag!

Note to self: "Stay away from Ziploc's miraculous Space Bags when cleaning in winter in a springtime mood; snow will fall relentlessly as punishment and I'll only have silk, chiffon, and other women's cast-off, strapless prom dresses left in the closet." Thank goodness my rock star pants ran from the Bag and saved the day (I know, I said no more pants. I lied.) along with my freshly "laundered" DIY shirt (see previous post) for some double-whammy DIY action. Hold on to your hats.

Who knew that parking garage lighting could be so flattering? I'm going to hang around here all the time now and only look up.

The first time I wore these rock star pants Paul Stanley (of KISS) was smiling at me, here. Okay, so I didn't know who he was and I didn't actually know it was happening at the time either, but still... The next time I wore them I was inspired to make a video clip. Today is not over yet and who knows what will transpire? I feel the slow churning of DIY magic like the colossal turbines in the engine room of the Titanic (that would be before she sank) - the engine scene is one of my favourites in the James Cameron movie.

Wearing:
  • DIY low-rise rock star pants
  • DIY "I have nothing to wear" shirt, laundry-free (see previous post)
  • wide '70s leather belt
  • satin hot-pink blouse, thrifted, Nicole designer-something-or-other blah
  • thrifted Sesame Street Massacre coat
  • thrifted fuzzy psychedelic top hat
  • boots, retail
  • magic loupe, made special for me by O
I always jump when I wear these pants. I'm hooking this up to Patti's Visible Monday at Not Dead Yet Style for sure. I don't have much to say. I. Am. Still. Cleaning...

  4. Yup I had a same flattering florescent lights this week too! The pants are so cool with the green fur. I saw your response on Suzanne's article this week. I was thinking the same thing, thanks for saying it. I've always believed there's room in the playground for all the different voices without shame. I think this is one the powers of the 40+ community of bloggers, not cutting each other down for difference. Way too many places in this world do this. Difference is what makes people interesting.

  6. The last post I read had Elvis in it, and now I get Melvis! Your rock star pants are perfect with that rock star belt and all the other appurtenances you listed above. I hope the rock star pants bring on some new inspiration or close encounter with a hot rock god, but not Gene Simmons.

  7. Yay, the rock star pants are back! I remember you debuting them shortly after I discovered your blog. It was one of the things that made me fall in love with reading it.

You can be my bizarro sister- I put away all of my light things and filled my closet with wool coats and heavy sweaters, only to have the driest winter on record in California...

  12. You'd have to be blind to miss you in this outfit.

I can see why it makes you want to jump and forces your eyes up towards the celestial light that is shining upon you, in all your giggle wrapped rainbow of fabulousness, the star of your own creative kaleidoscope universe.

  24. Ha! I know that late winter optimism! I've been dragging out the cute little shoesies lately and considering how to pull out the summer dresses and tops early with jackets, etc. You have a pretty versatile outfit left though ... should take you beautifully wherever you wish to go! Love it, Mel ... pretty conservative for you, though, isn't it?

Sorry about the weather this year. If it makes you feel any better, I just came back from Puerto Vallarta in the 80's to Prescott, AZ in the 60's...

  32. You are KILLIN IT in those pants! You really nailed it with those, well done. Love the mixture of textures with the jacket! Absolutely stunning!

  33. So now I know the secret, or at least one of them. Space bags. Wendy B. said she's addicted to them for traveling and all my spider senses started tingling. MUST HAVE. Thank you soo much for bringing them to my attention. I do have a trip planned soon (!) and must look my bloggerbest, you know?

I planned on cleaning and culling too, but ended up sewing. My space is a disaster and I announced in a loud voice that I wasn't GOING ANYWHERE this weekend. Joey has a show in South Carolina, but since I'm NOT GOING ANYWHERE, I won't be going. Maybe then I can get my stuff sorted. Oh, and get some SPACE BAGS!!! Yay.

Since this blog is about clothes, too, I must mention that you are beyond fab in your custom rock-star pants. But it's not just the pants, you see, it's the addition of all the other elements too, creating an ephemeral art-outfit moment.

You shine in my universe. LOVE YOU. XXXOOO

  37. Yes I remember the trousers. They remind me so much of the seventies when I was in my late teens /beginning of my twenties. I think you are a bit of sunshine.

  40. I will never forget the impact of your rock star pants on the future of KISS even though it was many moons ago. Unforgettable!!! I'll also never forget stoking the fires in the Titanic engine room and managing to get out of there alive afloat a double bass. I lived to tell the tale and and hang out in dimly lit car parks. I've missed you. xxxx
