I wore this for Mis Papelicos

Of course, I wore it for myself too. Share-in-Style: Christmas.

Nothing says Christmas more to me than glitter and sparkle.

This is what I wore in the little sketch I recently posted - my vintage red wool cape with my vintage '70s sleeveless crepe wool onesie with palazzo legs featuring side slits edged with diamond rhinestones. The slit goes as high as the metallic silver applique. My concrete stairway has never felt so glamorous. Those are also little rhinestone details at the neckline. One is missing. I don't care. I should have taken a closeup - next time. The red cape reminds me of Santa's elves.

The normals gave me a wide berth in this outfit.

Wearing
thrifted vintage '70s (maybe '60s?) evening onesie, sleeveless, with rhinestones
thrifted black wool turtleneck under the onesie
black tights with black knee socks
black glitter booties
thrifted black beret
thrifted vintage red wool cape with faux fur trim
toolbox hand bag (not shown)
magic loupe AND magic ring

While I was downtown today I bought some imagination at Sephora, a cosmetics store. Of course I walked out with a product but my fantasy is what compelled me to wait and wait and wait in an impossibly long checkout line when normally I would just leave. Most of the women in line were dressed for the Canadian outdoors in dark serviceable clothing and wore little or no makeup. I had exaggeratedly-defined brows today and red red lipstick on, and this outfit, but that's all. A little cloud of electricity buzzed overhead from our collective anticipation/exhaustion/stress. I wondered for how many of us our purchases will materialize our dreams. Personally, there's no question that the opaque eye shadow kit I bought will make me dazzling, more talented, rich, famous, and smarter.

And finally, taking a VERY short walk in this outfit. I couldn't resist showing you - it flows so wonderfully. The soundtrack is not very Christmasy, but I like it.

That's all. Hope you're not too frazzled by the holidays - they pass over me like warm chocolate syrup on ice cream. With a brief(?) stop on my hips and buttoxil area.  Cheers!

Question: I have been playing around with my banner, etc., lately, and I am wondering - when I update something like that, do you get a long list of new post notices in your readers? I hope not! Please let me know.

Massive train engineer pants to carry big loads

Kick the can, that was a game, wasn't it? Well, these high-waisted train engineer pants with the massive dropped crotch, spacious enough for Miz Bagg's slipping brain wang, make me feel like kicking a barrel, or doing a flying chopper kick, although I wouldn't want to damage these awesome thrifted Miu Miu boots (you've seen them before). BAM-BAM! Ow.

That's the same black DIY cropped mohair sweater top I wore with my previous Meh outfit. Hard to see here but you the outline shows up a in the last black and white photo.

And my favourite red wool cape with faux fur trim. Look, I'm smiling at absolutely nothing! I wore this cape for Jean of Dross into Gold.

Rather than the Orient Express, I am clearly the engineer of a freight train; these pants are designed for hauling the big loads. The pants have that tiny blue and white stripe, which creates the moirĂ© effect in the photo. Or maybe my hitnotizing massive butt has pinwheeled your googly eyes with its massive gorgeousness.

I am wearing:

  • high-waisted train engineer dropped-crotch pants with ankle zips, thrifted (did I forget any adjectives?)
  • Miu Miu boots, thrifted
  • red wool cape, vintage, thrifted
  • indigo beret, thrifted
  • Tissot mechanical watch, vintage, gift from O
  • mohair DIY cropped top, thrifted
  • black under top, thrifted
  • magic loupe, made for me by O

All this train action has exhausted me. Time to take a nap. Wake me up for snacks, please.

How do you carry your big loads?

Two statement pieces make a declarative

I knew I would wear my red cape today, but, ho-hum, not paired with my black jeggings and square-toe boots as usual. That would have bored me immeeediately, especially since my fingernails-on-chalkboard mood demanded something more irritating. So I decided to pull out the fall/winter/spring/summer colours of my mad thrifted floral pants. I reasoned that one statement piece needs another to achieve full-on declarative effect. The pinks in the trousers and under-T jarred shiveringly with the candy-crunch red of my cape, and the spew of flowers on the trousers grated awfully NICE with the faux leopard trim. Yumm-eew.

Details of the outfit:
  • red wool cape with faux fur trim, thrifted, also worn here
  • Versace floral pants, thrifted, also worn here
  • kitten heel ankle boots, retail
  • pink long-sleeve T, sample sale
  • wool turtleneck, thrifted
  • jewel-encrusted pendant, thrifted, also worn here
  • magic loupe, made for me by O
  • indigo beret, thrifted
Next photo: Flasher! Actually, this is my impression of John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. Stayin' alive, baby. Just stayin' alive - unlike the eviscerated rat close by.

Of course, these are not self portraits - I have Sandra, art project co-conspirator and blogger of Lens is More, to thank for that. We were both feeling low energy today, even after splitting a chocolate croissant and pumpkin scone, so in keeping with the mood we skulked around alleyways for a bit. Too bad (or lucky) Blogger doesn't have scratch and sniff...

Next stop was Chinatown. I hopped into this shop for the photo op because it embodied that ultra-cool Chinatown vibe.

Then Sandra scouted the doorway below, which she thought would really set off the cape and pants. I love this location.

Sandra flew low under the radar today but we got a couple of shots of her with graffiti and neon - she knows the locations of the city's best graffiti. I wonder if she'll post any. (Edit: Yes, she put up a couple, including one with graffiti and below is one of her with a Chinatown neon sign.)

On the way home, just when my feet started screaming, "Hey, freakazoid, you're not 20 years old any more, ya know!" a young woman stopped and asked me, "Do you know Bill Cunningham? You remind me of his photos." For those of you not familiar with him, he does street style photography in New York. His work inspired to me do my own street style blog. Suddenly my feet shut up. That's what I call a good day: friends, chocolate, scones, art, and making it home without a single blister with Mr. C. on my mind.

I'm hooking this up to Patti's Visible Monday at Not Dead Yet Style, her fantastic blog. I look forward to visiting everyone, especially now that I have a little more breathing space.

PS: I wrote this Saturday just after my outing so when I say "today" I really mean Saturday.

Your Comments on the Last Post

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback on the questions I raised in the last post, particularly, what is "too far"? Your comments for me are what gave this post life. I liked the photo shoot, sure, but I enjoyed reading your views even more. I like to think anything goes and there is no such thing as too far. I am trying to achieve that as a state of mind in everything I wear and I am so thankful for the spectrum of styles you share in your blogs - so much inspiration.

Scr-e-e-e-amingly Red

I was inspired by Citizen Rosebud and all her capes lately to wear this vintage red wool cape. The days are getting longer and warmer and I won't be able to wear it much more this season. My friend took this pic OUTSIDE. (Thank you!) I'm putting this in Patti's Visible Monday. Purple and red, ouch!

Details of the outfit:

  • red vintage wool cape with faux fur trim from F as in Frank vintage shop on Main Street
  • thrifted D&G side-zip slacks - the stitching was melting away so I had to resew all the seams. The fabric is like a lightweight ski-pant alien poly. Ooo, love it.
  • long purple gloves from a neat boutique, I forget the name, but found the same gloves at Winners a week later for half the price! Rrrr.
  • another teacup case I made, details in photo below. I love the spoon in the lid but I don't use it much.  I bought that Spode cup before my mum sent me my other most beautiful cup from a great, great, great grandmother (it's in an earlier post with my babushka teacup carrier). Of course coffee tastes better in a teacup that you bring from home in a groovy case. O made the hardware for me.

And another outdoor pic because it's such a novelty! We thought that was another person in the background - it's my reflection. We laughed.

And another pic to show my pants! It's a weird pose. These pants look great with some incredibly high-heeled, black pointy shoes, but my feet said "Non! Non!" today. In this pic, the stripe on the pants looks spider-webby.

I seem to have a few thrifted D&G pieces in my closet and it got me thinking, if there was a Lemonade Guide for Used Clothing, D&G would not be highly recommended; it seems to lose its value very quickly - I have found many pieces at low, low prices. What do you think? See you again soon.

My First Post

This is frightening. I started an outfit blog before featuring DRAWINGS of my outfits but never me in them: 1) I was scairt; 2) I felt like a dork; 3) I live a Japanese lifestyle, no shoes allowed indoors, so when I DID try to take pics, I had to run back and forth to the camera without shoes, then put my shoes on real fast standing on a paper towel, then pose before the self-timer went off - lots of photos of me bent over. Not a good look! After posting a month's worth of illustrations, I took the blog down anyway. It was freaking me out.

Now I've decided to take photos where I CAN take them - in my art studio. No shoe worries and my art is like a security blanket. I'll try to mix up my backdrops a bit so you don't get bored.

I want to thank you, outfit bloggers, for your posts You have given me courage and inspiration. I LOOOVE checking you out in your fabulous looks. There is so much ugliness in the world, so your efforts are greatly appreciated!!

Details of this outfit:
vintage patterned shirt in a torture fabric (love it)
vintage gold upholstery fabric pants (what's with the torture fabrics today?)
thrifted shoes, beret, embroidered leather belt
vintage sunglasses
vintage cape - I LOVE this cape!!

QUESTION: Am I weird or does anyone else like the feeling of odd fabrics on your skin?

This look has an old-world feel to it so I thought I'd try something black and white. If you were to see just this photo you would probably never guess I took it in 2012. Sometimes I'm blurry because I still have the problem of running back and forth to the camera.
